More exercises in value

Here's a little study on values. This underwater forest was fun, I wasn't focusing on detail, but instead working with the values in order to add depth.

More exercises! and some thoughts

Everyday I try to draw something I don't like drawing and I usually end up pleased with the results. For me its heavily shadowed dark lit movie scenes and scenery. When trying to recreate the picture I try not to worry about the colors and more on the values.

Added a lighting/color exercise of the shark.

Here's an excellent collection of wallpapers to use as a reference. http://imgur.com/a/xBbQB

SMORE DOODLES

Been working on the planes of the face/head and incorporated it with some value studies. When I do value studies I try to shoot for 4 values and try to keep them distinguishable.

Asaro Head Sketch

A good exercise turned out to be an Asaro Head Sketch. I did this with 100 opacity and 100% flow. Using only pen pressure rendered this piece. Here's a link to an excellent art reference site to get it. http://fleets-refs.tumblr.com/

color and value study

Now that I stop and look at it, I notice the flaws everywhere. Anyways, I used a flatbrush at 50% opacity and 50% flow and sloppily color picked. The brush settings helped for picking the middle value between two values. I might try this again with a different brush.

Undead Shaco Fanart

I need to work on my fabric and hands. And maybe less ugly weaponry.

Undead Jester Update

This might turn into some LoL fanart :D. I darkened the whole image a lot. To where the darkest value was just a smidgen above black. Then I built up from there. I used a hard round brush, 100% opacity and 100% flow.

Tackling Burne Hogarth

Burne Hogarth, challenge excepted!

I like the idea of starting with the torso and hips. I like throwing down the torso and fitting the hips. (forming the bent bean/pillow effect). I like the awkward position he puts the human form in. Normally hidden behind clothing, Hogarth helps show you the form beneath. He does't get explicit with the bone and muscle underneath, but instead shows you the form created and how it sits in deep space.

While replicating the images in the book I like to see if I can get it close to his version. Once I've achieved that, I like to do it again with modified parts. I really enjoy his perception of the human form.

Towerphant

High as an elephant.

might finish, might not!

chow update

I approached this like a sculpture. I pretended I had a chunk of clay in front of me and just carved away with the different values. This has been an eye opening experience in my digital painting life and I'm not even done.
