value exercise

The power of the line.

I recall watching youtube videos of people painting by just throwing down colors. I still struggle with this, but I realized if i have strong line work, all it comes down to is painting in the values. This has made a tremendous impact on my work digitally.

Another portrait before work...

I have been trying to keep my lines tight and clean. I found when I do this it is a lot easier to color afterwards. This is Taraji P. Henson from the movie Smokin Aces

Line exercises + rendering

I saw some guy on reddit doing some line drawings that looked smoooooth. I tried it out and it turns out it forces me to make my lines clean. Well, in doing that it turned out it was easier to lay down the values. Very cool, and a giant leap in rendering.
